Conflicts Novell Network Optimum Resource's has designed direct drive applications which place all the executable files and resources directly onto the computer's hard drive. This measure was taken to allow our products to operate on the Windows 2000 and XP platforms. However, this implementation precludes the use of CD based copy protection. In an effort to protect our investment and copyrights, we designed an installation system which utilizes floppy disks to control the number of applications a customer may install. This method requires a working floppy disk drive and then assumes that the installation software can access the drive. Novell Network software interferes with our installing software's attempts to communicate with the floppy drive. This causes installations to fail in an environment consisting of client machines connected to a Novell network. Error Message: Typically the installation will inform the administrator that "Either the drive is empty or the floppy is not an Optimum Resource floppy". Solutions: Disconnect the individual client computers from the Novell Network during the installation process. After installation, the clients may be reconnected and should work normally. Contact Optimum Resource to discuss alternative solutions. |

Code 3 Error Code 3 Text: "A registry key was found, but it is the wrong value. It may have been altered accidentally or purposely. Contact your administrator and have them perform the unlocking procedure for the machine." During installation of our direct drive products, a key is created in the registry. Its value is based on certain characteristics of the individual machine on which the product is installed. The validity of this key determines whether or not the program will execute. So deleting or changing its value will cripple the application. Due to a software error, computers whose characteristics fall within a certain range may cause our software to put an erroneous value into this key, thereby generating this error. One of our customers recently found that this problem occurred on 3 out of 20 computers on which they performed the installation. We have taken considerable effort to correct this software glitch and all new shipments of these products will include the updated and hopefully functional installation software. But customers may encounter this problem if using a version which has not yet been updated. Solution: Contact Optimum Resource for updated software. |
