Problem: When I attempt to access a pre-selected list and click on a word or group of words, I get a Run-Time Error # ___.
Solution: When the program was first installed, the floppy disk - which contains the database - was installed in the incorrect order. To fix this, go to START > SETTINGS > CONTROL PANEL > ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. In the menu window select "Spell Test Generator" and click the Add/Remove button. Now, reinstall the program by FIRST inserting the floppy disk in your floppy disk drive (typically Drive A), THEN insert the CD. Follow the on-screen prompts and the program will function correctly.

Windows XP, 2000

A teacher had a problem - she was using one of our CD based applications and getting the folowing error message:

The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\System32\wing.dll is not a valid windows image. Please check this against your installation disk.

What she didn't tell me was that she was working in XP environment and trying to run the application as a USER. Optimum Resource stand alone CD's where designed to operate in the administrative or Power user privileges. So when a student who has no administrative privileges tries to operate the program and it goes to save data the user does not have the privileges needed. We can expect the above error message as a possible consequence of such actions. The solution is to Upgrade to a Direct Drive version of the application.

Windows XP and 2000 Patch

Microsoft protections in the Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems prevented user without administrative privileges from utilizing any program which needed access to the CD-Rom drive to run, stopping students from effectively using our CD based programs. This easy to install patch will allow non-administrative users to access the CD-Rom drive.

Simply download the patch.exe file here and run it while you are logged on as administrator, you will see a box flash on your screen; the installation is complete.

Once installed, patch.exe works for all Optimum Resource titles. Note: unless you are using one of our Direct Drive Titles, the program CD will still have to be in the CD-Rom drive for operation.
